13 Feb Shamisen Rockers ROA Break Out of Japan with Overseas Exclusive Album and European Tour Dates
Shamisen rockers ROA prepare to break out of Japan with an exclusive overseas album and string of live performances in Europe this March, including a festival appearance.
ROA’s unique sound juxtaposes western punk-rock spirit with traditional eastern melody, a concept they’ve dubbed “和洋折衷 / Wayo Settyu” – literally meaning “the blending of Japanese and western styles”. Formed by the drummer of Japan’s legendary chart-topping ska-punk outfit SNAIL RAMP, ROA manage to propel their country’s three-stringed traditional instrument, the Tsugaru-shamisen, into the 21st century by implementing its iconic sound in new and exciting ways.
The septet will be heading to France to perform at Japan Expo Sud in Marseilles between 9–11 March 2018, one of the world’s biggest celebrations of Japanese culture.
To celebrate ROA has announced that they will join JPU Records’ roster of top talent from Japan and release an exclusive album through the label entitled RODIAC. The album will be available in full only on CD in the UK, Europe, USA and Canada from 6 April 2018, and compiles all 12 of ROA’s most recent and future singles, each themed after a sign of the zodiac, and has no plans to be released in Japan.
More information and tour dates to be announced shortly.
